Why MSA

Design work is something I have always dreamed of. My ambition of becoming an architect will begin its first step with the opportunity to study Architecture BA programme at Manchester School of Architecture. Manchester has always played a pivotal role in the modern world. From the industrial revolution to the recent mixture of classical and contemporary culture embedded in this modern city, every element and context of this city has formed the perfect aura for studying Architecture. As the programme is accredited by ARB/RIBA for Part 1, studying this course is particularly important in pursuing my future career. I believe the considerable resources and expertise provided by both University of Manchester and Manchester Metropolitan University and the innovative learning environment will definitely broaden my horizons towards architecture. Additionally, through the rigorous training, I can challenge myself both technically and intellectually.

Review of Exhibition

'Hervé Télémaque: A Hopscotch of the Mind' is one of the exhibitions I have visited recently. Unfortunately, it was quite a disappointment while I was trying to learn more about the political and racial issues from the Parisian artworks but all I saw were vague expressions through unassociated materials and unrelated topics (perhaps that's why it is called 'Hopscotch'). Nevertheless, I still learned about a variety of uses of the materials and mixed media.

Favourite Building

Taipei 101 is the architecture I admire the most. Its external design is inspired by the shape of bamboo, which symbolizes strength and modesty. It represents my country, my city and my home – it instils hope and encouragement within me. My biggest hope as a future architect is to have a positive influence on the world – and this is the kind of building I want to bring to the public. Through an architecture degree, I will take one towards my goal: not only to become an architect but also to become a better man who can make a positive difference in the world.

A Work of Architecture to Experience

Danjiang Bridge, the world's largest asymmetric cable-stayed bridge with a single tower, spans the mouth of Tamsui River, the longest river in Northern Taiwan. The bridge will ease the traffic pressure by linking two highways on the opposite side of the river. This is a construction that the residents of Tamsui and the fan of architecture in Taiwan have been waiting for for a long time. It not only reduces the 25-minute transportation time but also becomes the very first work of architecture in Taiwan designed by the world-famous architect, Zaha Hadid.
